CDW has just drawn to a close and was particularly engaging this year. They really raised their game by including live music in the street, shop openings, lively evening receptions and a good schedule of design talks. I feel lucky to have such a happening festival on my doorstep!

I’m quite excited by the new Mater shop/showroom as it’s filled with lots of lovely Danish design pieces, and as an added bonus is within walking distance of my flat! They timed the opening well, to coincide the first day of Clerkenwell Design Week. Check it out: https://materdesign.com/

Today was the press preview for the V&A’s latest exhibition – The Future Starts Here – which explores the role of design in shaping the world of tomorrow. The museum has brought together a really thought-provoking collection of tech, including a solar panelled shirt that can charge your phone, a driverless car, a cot that automatically rocks your baby to sleep, and a robot that does your laundry for you, à la The Jetsons! Greenpeace staged an inventive protest on the street outside the museum, with female engineers dismantling a diesel VW car to raise awareness of Volkswagen (sponsors of the show) being the only car manufacturer still producing diesel cars. The future is electric people.
12 May – 4 November at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

I’m really excited that my first book entitled Elvis Style: From Zoot Suits to Jumpsuits is going to be hitting the shelves this July! The designer has just finalised the layout and it’s looking terrific. Hal Lansky of Lansky Bros. in Memphis (Elvis’ favourite tailoring house) has written the foreword, and lots of great design experts have offered their opinions on Elvis’ influential style. It has already been trending on a few Amazon hot new release lists – more updates to follow! http://www.elvisstylebook.com
