I’ve just returned from Sicily, where I was photographing and interviewing the lovely rockabilly blogger Hungry Caramella for my new book on vintage style. Here’s a few pictures from my trip – more updates on the book to follow!

Last month I was invited to spend 24 hours being pampered at a &Breathe postnatal retreat, as I am reviewing it for the September issue of Baby London magazine. It was a truly blissful experience and so precious to spend one-to-one time with my youngest baby. I plan to return for another &Breathe retreat – hopefully for a week next time!

The June/July issue of Little London magazine has my 3-page feature on our fantastic family road trip through Tennessee, which included sleeping in Elvis’ teenage bedroom, hearing some amazing country music at the Grand Ol’ Opry and staying at the Inn at Christmas Place hotel, where it really is Christmas everyday!

Although I wrote about it extensively in my book Elvis Style, it was only recently that I finally visited Elvis’ honeymoon home in Palm Springs personally. It’s a modernist masterpiece and such a brilliant place to spend ones honeymoon – The King truly did have style!

It doesn’t get more kitsch than the Cabazon Dinosuars – a super-sized roadside attraction that we visited on the outskirts of Palm Springs. If you’re feeling brave, you can even climb up inside T. Rex’s mouth:

A couple of weeks ago we spent the night in Pioneertown – a former Western movie set founded by Roy Rogers and Gene Autry back in the ‘40s. Filming has since ceased, but the frontier style town has found a new lease of life as a photogenic tourist attraction, complete with the hip Pioneertown Motel (http://www.pioneertown-motel.com) and the family-friendly Pappy & Harriet’s restaurant and live music venue (www.pappyandharriets.com). The girls loved playing cowgirls on Mane Street, then dancing the night away to the country band after dinner, before heading back to rest their weary heads at the Pioneertown Motel.

I completely fell in love with The Amado in Palm Springs when we stayed recently. It’s an impeccably restored Mid-century gem, where you can either rent individual apartments through Airbnb or the entire complex via the link below for larger group gatherings. It’s also used regularly for shoots as it’s very photogenic, with a handful of suites surrounding a tranquil swimming pool, overlooked by the San Jacinto Mountains.Check it out! http://thedesertcollective.com/the-amado-property/

On our recent trip to California we flew from Heathrow and stopped off at Heston Blumenthal’s Perfectionist Cafe. I had read the reviews before we arrived, raving about the fish and chips – and I can confirm that they live up to the hype! The chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy inside and the batter enveloping the fish was so light it was like a tempura. During the Easter holidays children also can eat for free, and my eldest loved the Willy-Wonka-esque popping-candy ice cream. We are looking forward to our next Heathrow flight, just so we can return here! http://www.theperfectionistscafe.com/menu.php

I’m currently working on a feature for Vintage Life magazine about the super-kitsch Madonna Inn hotel. We stayed during a recent road trip around California, as the hotel had been on my travel bucket-list for years. Each room has it’s own theme and we stayed in the Jungle Rock room – appropriately, here are my kids dressed up as the Flintstones!
