We recently visited Finland for the first time, on the hunt for the best Moomin-related places to visit for Absolutely Mama magazine. We decided to take the scenic route to Moomin World in Turku, by starting our adventure in Helsinki with a visit to one of the popular Moomin cafes. There are now five in the city, serving up locally produced dishes in Nordic-chic surroundings. If your kids like Moomins, they will adore these quirky, Moomin-tastic cafes. There are Moomin characters sprinkled onto drinks, food is served on Moomin plates, the biscuits are Moomin shaped, you can have a Moomin tea party with the various toys dotted around the café, or relax in the reading corner with a book – by Tove Jansson, naturally! http://muminkaffe.com/en/

We’ve just returned from Moomin World in Finland, which is probably the most brilliantly bonkers place we’ve visited as a family so far! It’s an entire island off the coast of Turku, which is dedicated to Tove Jansson’s Moomin characters. Instead of hectic theme park rides, it’s all about imaginative play and nature. There’s a barefoot nature trail, a really peaceful kid’s beach, loads of Moomin characters to hug and interact with, play houses in the forest to explore and lots of singing and theatre shows. It was completely charming and we all fell in love with it! For further info see https://www.moominworld.fi/

Last month I was invited to spend 24 hours being pampered at a &Breathe postnatal retreat, as I am reviewing it for the September issue of Baby London magazine. It was a truly blissful experience and so precious to spend one-to-one time with my youngest baby. I plan to return for another &Breathe retreat – hopefully for a week next time!

The June/July issue of Little London magazine has my 3-page feature on our fantastic family road trip through Tennessee, which included sleeping in Elvis’ teenage bedroom, hearing some amazing country music at the Grand Ol’ Opry and staying at the Inn at Christmas Place hotel, where it really is Christmas everyday!

Although I wrote about it extensively in my book Elvis Style, it was only recently that I finally visited Elvis’ honeymoon home in Palm Springs personally. It’s a modernist masterpiece and such a brilliant place to spend ones honeymoon – The King truly did have style!

It doesn’t get more kitsch than the Cabazon Dinosuars – a super-sized roadside attraction that we visited on the outskirts of Palm Springs. If you’re feeling brave, you can even climb up inside T. Rex’s mouth:

A couple of weeks ago we spent the night in Pioneertown – a former Western movie set founded by Roy Rogers and Gene Autry back in the ‘40s. Filming has since ceased, but the frontier style town has found a new lease of life as a photogenic tourist attraction, complete with the hip Pioneertown Motel (http://www.pioneertown-motel.com) and the family-friendly Pappy & Harriet’s restaurant and live music venue (www.pappyandharriets.com). The girls loved playing cowgirls on Mane Street, then dancing the night away to the country band after dinner, before heading back to rest their weary heads at the Pioneertown Motel.

I completely fell in love with The Amado in Palm Springs when we stayed recently. It’s an impeccably restored Mid-century gem, where you can either rent individual apartments through Airbnb or the entire complex via the link below for larger group gatherings. It’s also used regularly for shoots as it’s very photogenic, with a handful of suites surrounding a tranquil swimming pool, overlooked by the San Jacinto Mountains.Check it out! http://thedesertcollective.com/the-amado-property/
